Fiber

Today in North America there about 120,000 llamas. Llama fiber is a natural proten fiber, most of it is medullated, cellular, hollow fiber that gives it a good weight to warmth ratio. Llama fiber does not have lanolin or grease as sheep wool does. It can be spun straight off the animal without the concern of excess lanolin.

Hand spinners, weavers and felters have enjoyed the approximately 22 colors provided by these wonderful creatures. Llama fiber promotes the ecological soundness of natural colors.

Despite the wonderful softness of good quality llama fiber, llama is one of the stongest fibers, second only to mohair.

We have a farm store on the premises with fiber, yarn, and other llama related items. Here at Pinetum Farm we hand shear our llamas in the spring. Fiber is available and ready for spinning. Please call for availability of color and amounts.
